Free Things To Do For The Queen’s Jubilee Weekend

The Queen’s Jubilee Weekend is fast approaching with an extra bank holiday and events up and down the country planned to celebrate the occasion. While we look forward to the festivities, this extra celebration right in the midst of England’s half term can put extra strain on finances, especially during the current cost of living crisis.

With that in mind we have pulled together some free things to do for the Queen’s Jubilee Weekend that mean you can cut back on costs without cutting back on the fun.

Low cost events for the jubilee

Street parties

Street parties have long since been a tradition when it comes to celebrating national events – especially the Queen’s jubilee.

However, turning up to your local street party can bring about pressure over what to take which in turn can run expensive.

Remember, the aim of a street party is to bring local communities together so don’t feel pressured into turning up with mountains of food. And, if you would like to take something, why not try some home baking to keep costs low.

Head to the official Queen’s Platinum Jubilee events page to find a street party near you.

A right royal picnic

We’re all hoping for some warm weather over the Jubilee Weekend and if we are so lucky then a picnic in the park is a great way to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee without breaking the bank.

From tea to cucumber sandwiches, cream tea to the Lemon Swiss Roll and Amaretti Trifle official Platinum Pudding, packing up British food fancies and heading to your local park, or even your own garden, is a great way to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.

A trip down memory lane

The Queen’s Jubilee Weekend is all about celebrating the Queen’s 70 year reign. So, why not take a trip down memory lane and visit a museum over the weekend.

Most UK museums are free to enter meaning you minimise spend but maximise education – and hopefully fun – factor.

A walk in the park

Whether you walk, take the kids’ bikes or take a football, a trip to the park is a great way to spend the (hopefully sunny) extra bank holiday we’ve all been given.

Some local parks are even hosting free or low cost events over the Jubilee weekend so be sure to check out your local council’s social media or website to find out all the details.

Decorations for the Queen’s Jubilee

Now the events are sorted, there’s the small matter of the decorations. Whether you’re decorating your house for a street party or simply joining in with Jubilee-fever, read on for ways to cut costs on your bunting.

Reuse and recycle

We know the Queen is known for re-wearing her infamous outfits so we’re sure she won’t mind you reusing your bunting from previous Royal events.

Or, if you’ve done away with your official decorations, consider repurposing other items around your house to use as decorations or get crafty with.

A tip that’s good for your bank balance and the planet – win:win!

Get crafty

While every shop in the country is stocking Jubilee decorations, there’s nothing better than making your own.

You’ll save money on purchasing often costly decorations and keep the kids, and grown ups, occupied for a few hours by getting crafting and designing your own buntings and flags.

Why not take it one step further and run a competition for best bunting?

We hope our list of low cost and free things to do over the Queen’s Jubilee Weekend helps you to keep costs down and prevent going over your budget. Remember, if an event or purchase causes you to fall into debt, then it definitely isn’t worth the splurge.
