Budget-Friendly Halloween Costumes

Budget-Friendly Halloween Costumes

As the spooky season creeps in on us, it comes as no surprise that everyone starts thinking about which of their favourite scary characters they’d like to dress up as this year. But, as the weather gets colder and energy bills rise, we know this time of year can be difficult. If you need a costume for a party, a family-themed costume, or simply some cost-effective ideas for your kids who are desperate to go trick-or-treating, Angel Advance has put together a list of budget-friendly Halloween costumes to help you out!

The Ghost

The classic budget-friendly Halloween costume is, of course, the ghost. If you have a spare old bed sheet lying around, ask someone to place it over you and gently mark with a pen where your eyes would be, then cut out some eyeholes and you’re done!

To turn this into a fun costume for all of the family, transform yourselves into a family of ghosts with different-sized bed sheets! If you don’t have any spare sheets or enough for all of the family, take a trip down to your local charity shop to pick some up for a cheap price.

The Witch

Another tried-and-tested favourite is the witch. Simply get yourself a pointy hat, an old broom, and an all-black outfit, and you’re ready to go!

If you want to go all out for this one, why not draw some moles or warts on with makeup or face paint to give the real witch effect?

The Robber

Next is a simple, yet effective, Halloween costume – the robber. If you have a black and white striped T-shirt, some black trousers and some black gloves – you have everything you need to dress up as a robber this year.

If you want to go one step further, you can head to a charity or fancy-dress shop to try and find a black mask and a cheap, plain tote bag that you can draw a pound sign on with a black marker to really sell the look!

Medusa

A fun, cost-effective idea for a children’s Halloween costume is the Greek mythological character, Medusa. If your kids have any toy snakes in their collection, you can take some hair pins and clip them into their hair, and use a spare bed sheet as a Greek robe!

Local charity shops always have a wide selection of donated toys on offer if you don’t have any toy snakes lying around.

The Zombie

For an eerily effective costume idea, why not try out the zombie this year? Follow an online zombie face-painting tutorial, or create your own look.

Finish the costume off with some fake blood and some old, ripped-up clothes and you’re ready to go trick-or-treating!

Superheroes

One sure to be popular with the kids is a DIY superhero costume. Take a plain T-shirt and use some permanent markers to draw their favourite superhero logo on the front (Superman, Batman and the Flash are probably some of the easiest to draw!), then use an old bed sheet as a cape and they’ll be trick-or-treating ready!

To turn yourselves into a family of superheroes, DIY a few different T-shirts and turn them into a fun, budget-friendly Halloween activity for all of the family.

The Cat

We’re finishing this list of budget-friendly Halloween costumes off with another classic – the cat. Simply wear an all-black outfit, use some makeup (or face paint for kids) to draw on a black nose and some whiskers, and you’ll be ready for Halloween!

If you want to take this one step further, visit your local charity shop, fancy dress shop or children’s toy store and find some black cat ears to complete the look.
