What Are My Options for Dealing With Debt?

couple looking at debts

Dealing with your debts can feel overwhelming but taking the first step to face your debts will help you feel more in control and less stressed. We always recommend getting debt advice before you do anything else. Our online advice service allows you to get a recommendation to deal with your debts at your own pace. You can get advice day or night and find out what your options are for dealing with your debts. Then you can make an informed decision about what’s right for you. Our advice is free, confidential and won’t affect your credit score to find out your options. We’ll never judge you or make you feel bad about your situation.

How Can Debt Advice Help Me?

It will help you work out:

  • What you owe to your creditors
  • What you can afford to repay towards your debts
  • Which debt solutions could help you
  • How long the debt solution would last
  • What solution is right for you

Not all solutions will be right for you because personal circumstances are so different, and some may not be available in your country.

Talk to Your Creditors

It’s important to keep up communication with your creditors if you’re struggling to pay, as you may be able to come to an agreement to pay off your debts or get more time to work out your situation. We know this option doesn’t work for everyone, especially if you don’t feel able to talk to your creditors directly. If you do feel like this, get in touch with our advisors so we can help.

What Debt Advice Options Are Available?

There are several options to deal with your debt – these can be formal or informal solutions. It’s worth remembering that you might not be eligible for certain solutions, this is due to your personal circumstances. At Angel Advance, we always advise you on the best way forward. If you would like to read more about each individual solution you can, but we would recommend getting debt advice first to make sure you are eligible and you get tailored advice.

Need More Time To Decide What to Do?

Breathing space is a government-backed scheme that gives you extra time to think about your options and get a solution in place. If you’re eligible for the scheme, it gives you 60 days of breathing space where your creditors can’t contact you, take action to make you pay or add interest and charges to your debt.

It covers most debts like credit and store cards, loans, overdrafts and arrears on household bills. You can only have breathing space once every 12 months, so if you have had it in the past 12 months (even if it was cancelled) you cannot have it again. You will still accrue defaults and missed payments during the 60 days. To see if you’re eligible and apply get debt advice online or talk to an advisor.
