Creditor Guide: Sky

Sky is one of Europe’s leading media and entertainment providers, which is part of Comcast Corporation. Providing broadcasting and telecommunications across six different countries, Sky has 23 million customers using its services. These services include broadband, entertainment, sports, news and much more – many of which are on a subscription basis.

Missed Sky Payments

With the current state of the economy, many still need help with cost of living prices.  Recurring charges, such as direct debit set-ups, can unfortunately leave you facing money worries. However, Sky does have policies in place to give you some breathing space.

Missed Direct-Debit Payments

If a direct-debit payment is missed, Sky will usually give you 10 days to make sure the required amount is in your bank account before they attempt to charge you again. Please note that you should not try to make a manual payment during this period, as you may be charged twice.

If the second automatic attempt also fails, Sky will notify you either by text or email, that you have 1-2 days left to make the payment before your Sky services are restricted.

Missed Continuous Card Payments

If a continuous card payment is missed, Sky will notify you immediately via text or email, to let you know that you have 2-3 days left before your services are restricted.

Sky will only make one attempt to charge you if you are on a continuous card set-up. So, if this has failed, you will need to pay manually and then reset the payment method for next month.

What Happens If My Services Are Restricted?

If your Sky services are restricted, you must:

Pay what you owe in full.

Set-up a new, continuous payment method.

Wait for the payment to reach Sky.

After you have completed the above steps, your Sky services should be reinstated automatically. However, this will not happen immediately, as the payment must reach Sky before you can regain access.

What If I Can’t Make A Payment In Full?

You might be eligible for one of Sky’s Social Tariffs if you claim a qualifying benefit such as Universal Credit (UC), Pension Credit (PC), etc. To check if you qualify, use our free online benefits calculator.

Missing payments, or not making full payments, can negatively affect your credit rating. This means you may not be able to borrow money from lenders in the future. But, if you let Sky know that you’re struggling to pay the debt you owe, they can help to make your bill more manageable.
